Last week, The Chic Incumbent was honored to be invited to attend a reception at the private residence of the Ambassador of Belgium, Johan Verbeke hosted by Water.org and Capital Eagle Distributing. Although stunningly beautiful, the focus of the reception was not to simply the perfectly manicured circular fountain laid driveway with the Belgium crest overhead, the ornately detailed interior design, or the exquisite hors d’oeurves. That night our focus shifted to the 750 million people around the world (approximately one in nine people) who lack access to clean water. Every day, women spend a combined 200 million hours collecting water for their families.
In support of Water.org and its co-founders Matt Damon and Gary White, Stella Artois developed “Buy a Lady a Drink“: a campaign to help stop these journeys so these women can begin new journeys of their own. Stella Artois made a donation of $1.2 million to Water.org in January and is continuing this important mission here in our Nation’s Capital.
Stella Artois invites consumers to join the cause by purchasing limited-edition Chalices. One Chalice will help Water.org provide five years of clean water to one person in the developing world. The three unique and beautifully designed Chalices were inspired by traditional handcrafted objects from three of the developing countries where Water.org operates, including textiles from India, baskets from Ethiopia and pottery from Honduras. Consumers can purchase the Chalices at Amazon.com in the United States.
“We’re honored to be joining forces with this premier Belgian global brand which has stepped up to support Water.org and help raise awareness of the global water crisis. Together we can make a difference.” – Ambassador Verbeke
Of course, The Chic Incumbent was on the scene and captured the breathtaking residence and fashionable guests:

While wondering aimlessly around U Street a couple Saturdays ago, I was pleasantly surprised to catch a glimpse of GoodWood DC, a chic vintage boutique that would eventually become a weekly obsession, at least every Thursday when new shipments come in. This “American mercantile dry goods store, established in 1994” Is a feast for the eyes and the senses. Since my weekly stalking began, I was able to snag a vintage gold gilded mirror for $65.00 and a green vintage jewelry box, with gold accents reminiscent of Cartier, for $10.00. Pieces range in value and you never know what you’ll find from week to week.

Meet our CHIC of the WEEK: California Attorney General Kamala Harris
Harris spurred media shockwaves of excitement last week announcing her plan to run for Senate with the hopes of taking over Senator Barbara Boxer’s seat (D-Calif). We the CHIC have had our eye on Kamala ever since the President’s controversial statement dubbing her the ‘…best-looking attorney general.’ Although we the CHIC agree that Kamala has killer style, she also exemplifies the characteristics of a exemplary leader, as demonstrated by her long list of accomplishments. If Harris wins the California Senate seat, she would make history as the state’s first female African and Asian-American senator.
Here are a few of our favorite style moments:
